Dev Journal 0.1.0 — Unreal Engine 5.7.4 and 5.8.2, Windows 64-bit.
Most reported problems are covered by the documentation. The full troubleshooting section is in the user guide; the common cases are below.
Confirm the plugin is enabled in Edit → Plugins and that the editor was
restarted. The plugin loads at PostEngineInit.
Check that tracking is enabled on the panel (it can be paused), and that the asset is not covered by an ignore path in Project Settings. Only meaningful changes are recorded — a no-op save produces nothing, on purpose.
Press Refresh on the panel. If a system document looks stale, press Rebuild on the Systems tab, which re-clusters from the full store.
Expected. AI is off by default. Enable AI Mode on the panel or in Project Settings.
Press Refresh Models to see what is present, then Install Configured Model, or set the model id to one you already have.
Ollama is not running, or the base URL is wrong. Press Test Connection — it sends no project data.
You selected a cloud provider, or an Ollama URL that is not on this machine. Enable Allow Project Data To External AI if that is what you intend.
Reasoning models are asked to disable thinking automatically. If replies are still refused, the citations are failing validation — which is the plugin protecting your documentation. Try Regenerate, or a larger model.
The underlying facts changed, so the summaries describe a state the project has moved past. Regenerate to produce current ones. Switching AI off does not remove already-validated blocks.
Delete Intermediate/ and rebuild.
Dev Journal ships as source and is compiled by your project. A Blueprint-only project needs
the standard Unreal C++ toolchain (Visual Studio with the C++ workload) installed in order to
build it. If the toolchain is present and the error persists, delete Binaries/ and
Intermediate/ in both the project and Plugins/DevJournal/, then reopen
the project.
A report is most useful when it contains the things that let the behaviour be reproduced:
Please do not send API keys, credentials or proprietary project content. They are never needed to diagnose a Dev Journal problem.
The user guide is the full operating manual: interface tour, daily workflow, AI and Ollama setup, privacy settings, a complete settings reference, troubleshooting and an FAQ. A Turkish translation is also available.
